The Layers of Law and Social Order Symposium took place on October 24, 2014.
This conference discussed legal pluralism, self-regulatory regimes, and the interplay between state and non-state dispute resolution and governance. Instead of simply contrasting private and public order, or viewing state and non-state regimes as a dichotomy, the conference considered the multiple layers and sources of legal and social order in contemporary societies, how they interact with each other, and what impact they have.
The written contributions by the conference participants will be published in a special symposium edition of the FIU Law Review.
