The French legal system and institutions, which were firmly rooted in St. Lucia during the French colonial era, were inherited by the British in 1814. The Quebec Civil Code and the Code of Civil Procedure were adopted by the British government of the island to ensure that the civil law legal system remained part of St. Lucia law. With the enactment of these codes, a mixed legal system comprised of both the common law and the civil law coexisted in practice.
This collection of ordinances from 1913 to 1915 enacted by the Governor of St. Lucia where acquired by FIU Law Library from the Connecticut State Library.
