Description
Research on Cuban law using FIU Law Library’s Mario Diaz Cruz Library. The main objective of her work is to prepare a research guide of Cuban law that will assist other scholars in researching the Cuban legal system and its laws from a historical perspective.
Visiting Scholar
Maria Elena Cobas Cobiella is a Senior Lecturer at the College of Law at the University of Valencia in Spain. She specializes in civil law, family law, notary law, immigration law, and the legal problems associated with bioethics. Dr. Cobas Cobiella has published numerous journal articles and book chapters in Spain, Cuba, Mexico, and Bolivia. She earned her doctorate in Civil Law at the University of Valencia and her law degree at the University of Havana. She also has a master's degree in Private Law from the University of Valencia and the ADEIT Foundation in Spain. She was previously a law professor at the University of Havana. Dr. Cobas Cobiella is a recipient of the 2015 Diaz-Ayala Library Travel Grant at FIU, this Grant provides scholars and graduate students the opportunity to conduct research on Cuba and its diaspora, thereby expanding access to the library's unique holdings and enhancing its value as a national resource.
