FIU College of Law and University of Miami School of Law co-hosted the Second Workshop in a Zoom Summer Brown Bag.
Jose Gabilondo (FIU College of Law) presented Making Market Structure: A Post-Crisis View of Financial Intermediaries, presenting some draft chapters for a banking monograph, which one of the main goals is to offer a working (though somewhat tentative) model of how financial institutions, mechanisms, and flows of funds perform intermediation.
Elizabeth M. Iglesias (UM School of Law) presented her work Against Fascism: Toward a Latcritical Legal Genealogy, this article takes up the invitation of the LatCrit 2019 Biennial Conference organizers to resist the fascist turn in American politics.
Presenter
Jose Gabilondo joined the College of Law after working in financial market regulation at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and the World Bank. He served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from 2009-2011 and he is currently Associate Dean for Accreditation & Reporting. Professor Gabilondo teaches corporate finance, banking regulation, tax, and Profesión Jurídica Comparada.
Elizabeth M. Iglesias holds a BA (magna cum laude) from the University of Michigan and a JD (with honors) from Yale Law School. She is the co-founder of Latina and Latino Critical Theory, Inc. (LatCrit, Inc.) which she incorporated in 1998 and co-directed until 2003. In 1997, she designed the Project for Legal Economic, Development, Justice and Equality (PLEDJE) an innovative clinical program to promote micro-business development, immigrant rights & the use of NAFTA labor and environmental side accords through workshops, community based study circles and outreach to underprivileged high school students.
